Science

Around 20 per cent of the UK workforce are in science-related careers and there is a shortage of people with Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM) skills.

If you are interested in how science can unlock the secrets of a crime scene, then our courses are for you. It's not just the Police who use CSI trained staff: The Fire Service, Prisons, Customs, UK Border Agency, Private Investigation Companies and many more sectors deploy trained staff. Forensic scientists include:

  • Anthropologists
  • Entomologists
  • Biologists
  • DNA Experts
  • Ballistics Experts
  • Pathologists
  • Chemists

You can study practical, hands-on course which can lead you to work or to university to study for a degree. The BTEC Extended Diploma in Science at Level 3 is equivalent to 3 A Levels.

You study in our bio-technology labs and workshops, including our regional Gazelle Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM) Centre which was opened by Carol Vorderman MBE in October 2013. The Centre is the only one of its kind in London.

You will use state-of-the-art equipment such as gel electrophoresis used in genetic fingerprinting.
